Selection of Sealing Materials:
The primary purpose of sealing the ends of a tubular heater is to prevent moisture from entering the magnesium oxide (MgO) fill material. Exposure to moisture can compromise the insulation properties of the MgO, leading to reduced performance, potential electrical leakage, and eventual heater failure. It is important to note that certain modified or specially treated MgO formulations may be designed to be used without additional sealing.

Commonly used sealing (moisture-proof) materials for tubular heaters include:

  1. Glass: Offers excellent high-temperature resistance and moisture barrier properties. Suitable for applications requiring exposure to elevated temperatures.

  2. Epoxy Resin: Provides robust sealing and good electrical insulation. Typically used for lower to medium temperature applications due to temperature limitations of the resin.

  3. Silicone Oil/Silicone Grease: Used as a sealing compound or potting material. Provides good moisture resistance and remains stable over a wide temperature range.
