Why do water scales form on electric heating tubes for liquid heating?

Commonly known as water rust or water alkali, water scale is white lumpy or powdery substance gradually formed by minerals contained in hard water adhering to containers such as pots and kettles after boiling. Its main components include calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, calcium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, calcium chloride and magnesium chloride.

Water scales build up on electric heating tubes mainly because the power per meter of liquid heating tubes is too high, which raises the surface temperature of the heating tubes. The higher the surface temperature, the faster the water scale accumulates. As more and more scale adheres to the tube surface, heat inside the heating tube cannot dissipate in time due to the barrier of scale. This further increases the surface temperature and leads to excessive internal temperature of the tube. Once the temperature exceeds a certain limit, the internal resistance wire will burn out, and in severe cases, tube burst may occur, rendering the electric heating tube unusable.

Therefore, excessive water scale on liquid heating electric tubes will easily cause burnout. It is necessary to clean and maintain the tubes timely when scale appears on the surface to prolong their service life.
